Friend of Derby House, Lizzie, has been putting her new Derby House Elite Sparkle breeches to the test. Here’s what she had to say…
After dying my white show breeches blue a couple of weeks ago, I was in desperate need of a new pair of white competition breeches, so when Derby House asked me if I would like to review their new Elite Sparkle Breeches, I nearly bit their hand off!
Derby House pride themselves on being environmentally friendly and so their packaging is always recyclable. However, the presentation has not compromised at the expense of this, my breeches arrived in a beautiful white cardboard envelope in a large cardboard box. The packaging is so pretty that these would be perfect as a present for someone.
These breeches are available in three lush colours, white, navy and merlot. For the reasons above I went for the white. However, I think I need the other colours for every day as these breeches tick every box for me.
I have really put these breeches through their paces, wearing them for both a dressage show and a Hunter Trial (super brave taking brand new white breeches XC as I am prone to hitting the deck), before sharing my review with you.
Let’s break it down to the key points:
Fit:
I always get confused with breeches sizing as I never know how inches relate to dress size. Luckily the Derby House team were happy to help me with my sizing queries. I am a standard size 10 and so they advised me to go for a size 26. They fitted like a glove, no baggy legs or camel toes, winning!
Being vertically challenged (5’4”), and curvy but flat bottomed at the same time, high waisted breeches can make me look a bit like Simon Cowell, however these sat perfectly and really flattered my figure, hugging me in all the right places. The length was also spot on with no gatherings of excess material bunching at the bottom of the leg.
The Material:
These breeches are made from a performance stretch fabric which is supportive but not restrictive. There is also a water-repellent coating on the fabric which helps keep you dry in rain showers and to prevent staining, perfect for the infamous British summertime and for people like me who struggle to stay clean whilst wearing white.
Some white breeches are also see-through, but I am wearing a pair of black Bridget Jones style knickers in these photos and even when I bend over, they are not visible.
These breeches have a full silicone gel seat which has a pretty pattern and makes you feel very secure in the seat without preventing movement, perfect for jumping!
They also have shaped Lycra calf panels which finish at the foot area which means these fit perfectly in riding boots without any bulky areas of material.
The Finishing Touches:
As you may have guessed by their name, these Breeches are blingy! Another reason why I love them. There are sparkly diamante details on the rear two belt loops and along the two front pockets. I also love that the pockets are functioning zip pockets which are really handy for storing money or keys in whilst at shows.
The breeches also feature discreet stylish Derby House branding with embossed DH branding on the hook and clasp fastening and a Pegasus Logo on the back of the breeches under the V shaped high waist.
As always with Derby House products, these breeches are great value for money. With the Navy pair priced at just £50.99, with the White and Merlot versions selling at a smidge more at £51.99. They definitely feel and fit like they should be twice this price.
I cannot thank Derby House enough for entrusting me to review another of their innovative new products.
